The evening begins at 7pm with a talk with Pulitzer Prize and GRAMMY Award-winning librettist, Mark Campbell, Music Director, Michael Barrett, and several of the performing artists.
Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale bookends this year’s Festival, examining how war can affect us individually and as a society. Now 100 years old, the narrative–originally by Charles Ramuz–receives a fresh treatment from Pulitzer and GRAMMY™ winning librettist Mark Campbell, who has reset this Faustian story. What happens when you sell your fiddle in exchange for wealth? What if the buyer happens to be the embodiment of evil: Satan? Much of the story will be told through dance by award winning choreographer Joshua Bergasse who also directs. The original band of seven instruments performs all of Stravinsky’s music.
