I’m thrilled to be returning to Music@Menlo to present George Crumb’s mesmerizing second American Songbook. In each volume of this massive work, Crumb takes classic American tunes and re-orchestrates them for solo voice, amplified piano and an enormous battery of percussion instruments. This particular volume focuses on African-American spirituals.
For this performance, I will be joined by baritone Randall Scarlata, percussionists Florian Conzetti, Christopher Froh and Ayano Kataoka and legendary Crumb interpreter Gil Kalish.
