The Hildegard Competition Concert is the culmination of the second annual Hildegard Competition, our initiative highlighting outstanding trans, female, and nonbinary composers in the early stages of their careers. The concert features the world premieres of three commissions from winning composers inti figgis-vizueta, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, and Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir, performed by the National Sawdust Ensemble. In addition to Hildegard, Niloufar Nourbakhsh is the winner of a Discovery Grant from OPERA America and Random Access Music’s Call for Scores this year, and Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir will be appearing in this summer’s Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center.
This debut performance of the National Sawdust Ensemble will also perform music from runners-up Bahar Royaee, Yaz Lancaster, Meara O’Reilly, Nina Shekhar, Angela Slater, and Sugar Vendil, and our lobby will feature the graphic scores of runner-up Monica Demarco. Don’t miss this spectacular, celebratory event!
Support for the Hildegard Competition is provided, in part, by a generous grant from the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.
